We have some amazing news to share this morning. Our community has successfully ‘saved the SpArC’ for 2017 – 2018. Shropshire council has announced that Bishops Castle’s SpArC Centre is to be one of six centres supported by the new leisure centre strategy.

The Save The SpArC campaign raised over £60,000 for the centre bringing the total to around £80,000 including the pool cover and other funding. This sent a clear message to Shropshire Council. The new leisure strategy is available to view here

At the most recent full council meeting at Shire Hall, SpArC Campaigners and the Bishops Castle area was praised on multiple occasions for their efforts and energy during the campaign to save the SpArC.

What’s Next? I suppose the thing to do next is to change the message to Use The SpArC. I could definitely spend a bit more time in the gym. The SpArC will be supported for the next two years. I think by the end of those two years it would be great to see further increased user numbers and a continuation of support for our Leisure Centre.

Well done everyone!

  1. That’s good news, certainly more people may now commit to up front ‘membership’ payments now they know it’s going to remain open for business.
